Flu Vaccination
Influenza (Flu) is a serious disease. Anyone can contact influenza. Some people become sick and
need to be hospitalized. Influenza causes school absenteeism and may cause adults to miss work to
care for sick children. Because schools is an excellent place for flu viruses to attract and spread
viruses, families with school-age children have more infections than other families. The academy of
Pediatrics recommends influenza immunization for students to prevent disruption of academic or
athletic activities. Influenza vaccine may be administered to any healthy child or adolescent who
wishes to reduce the risk of becoming infected with influenza.
The Center for Disease Control (CDC) of The United States recommends people 6 months of age and
older and people in close contact with them (all household members) to have the vaccine. Flu vaccine
prevents influenza-related death, severe illness and protects other people.
If your child and/or family members need a vaccination, we will provide this service at the RIS Clinic.
This is part of our partnership program with Piyavate Hospital (Doctors and Nurses) who administer
the program as a service to RIS & Swiss School. Please be informed that the decision to receive the
vaccine is up to you, and the vaccine will cost 460 Baht per dose. This flu vaccine will cover 4 strains
of Flu;
• A/California/7/2009 (HINI)
• A/Switzerland/9715293/2013 (H3N2)
• B/Phuket/3073/2013(B Yamagata lineage)
• B/Brisbane/60/2008-like(B Victoria lineage)
Children under 9 years old receiving the flu vaccine for the first time should have 2 shots, one month
apart. The first shot will be administered at the RIS clinic. The second shot will be given at the
hospital.
Those who are allergic to eggs should not receive the vaccine.
